Text: Rev. 5:11,12.
Ultimately, we should study every subject with a view to its impact on our thinking about God Himself.
Surely, what we are able to learn from God's word about His angels ought to impart a greater appreciation for the wisdom and power of God.
Though the kingdom of Christ has been completely established and God's message to man is now complete, God is still very much the Sovereign Ruler and Sustainer of this world - Ac. 17:24-28; Col. 1:16,17. Cf. Phil. 3:20,21.
Angels are an important part of God's activity today - Hb. 1:14.
Against us are arrayed the "spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Eph. 6:12).
Yet we worship a God who is greater than all His adversaries - Rom. 8:37-39.
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.
God is not unconcerned about our survival - Rom. 8:31,32. Cf. Jd. 24,25.
God employs His angels in the service of our protection and salvation - Psa. 34:7.
If we learn nothing else from the Bible, at least we ought to learn that God will one day triumph over all that opposes Him.
Whether we know the behind-the-scenes particulars or not, we know that angels have always been a part of God's working in the world - e.g. Gen. 24:6,7,40.
Contemplation of the greatness of God's creation, including the angels, ought to restore our perspective: awe, reverence.
We are but a part of a creation that is considerably more vast than ourselves.
That truth ought not to frighten us, but certainly should humble us and adjust our perspective.
It is easy to ask many questions about angels that God has not given us the answers to -- yet the very fact that God assures us that His angels are His servants in the service of our salvation ought to make a difference for good in our lives.
Comfort.
Courage.
Gratitude.
In the battle against evil, we are not alone! "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them"
(2 Kgs. 6:16,17).
